Congratulations to UAE-based ceramist who has been selected from an international open call by Gaya Ceramic Center, in Ubud (Bali) for its two-month Resident Artist Programme.
From the center, he will focus on Raku and Naked Raku firing, working on creating a body of new work informed by the process. Raku was initially created in Japan and involves removing work from the kiln at temperatures as high as 950 C and placing in combustable materials to create an unmistakable aesthetic.
“I’m really enjoying working here in Bali. It’s somewhere I’ve always wanted to visit and to indulge my passion for ceramics while exploring and being inspired by the incredibly rich surroundings of this island paradise. It’s a once in a lifetime opportunity,” said Michael.
